Importing to United States: what to know

  • Vehicles 25 years or older are exempt from FMVSS under the 25-year rule — the entire R32/R33 Skyline GT-R run, Mk4 Supras, FD RX-7s and early R34s are already eligible, with the rest of the R34 range rolling in through 2027.
  • Import duty is 2.5% of the vehicle value; your customs broker files the NHTSA HS-7 and EPA 3520-1 forms at entry.
  • Right-hand drive is legal federally for 25-year-plus imports — titling is handled at state level.
  • English-language NZ ownership and service documentation ships with the car — no translation step.
